Founded in the mid‑1980s, the Dietary Management of Inherited Metabolic Disorders (DMIMD) meeting was established as a forum for dietitians to meet, discuss, learn, and share experience in the dietary management of metabolic disease. At a time when national guidelines were limited, clinical practice varied, and opportunities to network were few, DMIMD provided a valued space for collaboration. As metabolic care became more complex - with patients living longer, managing pregnancy, and responding to expanding medical knowledge and product developments - the meeting evolved to address these changing needs. Over four decades, DMIMD has grown from a small workshop into a large international conference featuring workshops, poster presentations, and speakers from the UK and beyond. Today, it continues to foster collaboration and shared learning, supporting best practice in metabolic dietetics now and into the future.
