Nutrition in the management of COPD


The COPD e-learning programme is intended for respiratory healthcare professionals. This free programme has been developed in partnership with nurses experienced in patient COPD management. It is designed to support the knowledge of managing malnutrition in COPD as well as provide guidance on appropriate prescribing of oral nutritional supplements (ONS) for patients with COPD.

Once you have completed the course you will have the opportunity to download and print a certificate of completion.

Learning objectives

After completing this e-learning, you will:

  1. Understand the importance of ensuring that peopke with COPD receive a nutritionally complete diet, including sufficient protein.
  2. Be familiar with nutritional assessment and monitoring.
  3. Appreciate the range of ONS options available and how to tailor these to the patient's needs and preferences.
  4. Understand how to confidently recommend or prescribe an ONS.
