Aptamil Pepti-Junior is an extensively hydrolysed whey-based formula, containing 50% of the fat as medium chain triglycerides (MCT) and glucose syrup to promote digestion and absorption. It has a low osmolality (220 mOsmol/kg H2O) and contains long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPs) and nucleotides to help meet the requirements of infants with malabsorption related conditions. Aptamil Pepti-Junior is suitable from birth and can be used as a sole source of nutrition up to 6 months of age, and/or as part of a balanced diet from 6 months.

Printable Data Card

Aptamil Pepti Junior is ACBS approved and prescribable on form FP10 (GP10 in Scotland) for the dietary management of malabsorption related conditions resulting from conditions such as short bowel syndrome, post gastrointestinal surgery, liver disease, chronic diarrhoea, and feed intolerance.

Not suitable for intravenous use. Not suitable for infants with galactosaemia, galactokinase deficiency or anaphylaxis. UK kosher approval notes that Aptamil Pepti Junior is processed using pork trypsin enzyme, which is not present in the final product.

Aptamil Pepti Junior can be bottle-fed or administered as bolus or continuous drip feeds via enteral tube feeding. N.B. Patients with severe gut damage should receive half strength feeds initially, gradually increasing to full strength over 2-3 days.

All Aptamil products carry preparation instructions. Please see packaging for further information. The standard dilution of 13.4% is made with 3 scoops of powder and 90ml of water providing 66 kcal/100ml. Aptamil Pepti-Junior can be prepared with 4 scoops (18.1% dilution) instead of 3 in case of high energy needs, such as malabsorption with malnutrition, to provide 88.7 kcal/100ml and still with a low osmolality (275 mOsmol/kg H2O). The recommended intake of Aptamil Pepti-Junior should be determined by a clinician or dietitian only, and is dependent on the age, body weight and medical condition of the infant. Due to the special formulation of this feed there will be some separation of prepared feeds on standing. Shake well before use. For hygiene reasons, do not store made up feeds. Make up each feed as required and always discard unfinished feeds as soon as possible and always within 2 hours.
