Update on the Latest Human Milk Research

Dr. Bernd Stahl is the R&.D Director of Human Milk Research & Analytical Science at Danone Nutricia Research, Utrecht and an Associate Professor within the Chemical Biology & Drug Discovery Group at the Department of Pharmaceutical Science at the Utrecht University, Netherlands.

In this talk Dr. Bernd Stahl presents his research outcomes focusing on the factors that influence and are influenced by breastfeeding and human milk, extending beyond mere nutrition. 

This research aims to pave the way for the development of innovative, specialized nutritionally or therapeutically relevant solutions. Understanding the normal variation within human milk and its impact on breastfed infants is crucial for global public health. The benefits of breastfeeding and the composition of human milk largely depend on the complex interaction of nutrients, including proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates, as well as bio-actives such as HMOS, prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics, and postbiotics. These structure-function insights are not only significant for health in early life but also for the entire lifespan of an individual.
