In this module you will learn about the latest UK guidelines and recommendations for the diagnosis and management of food allergy in infants, with a focus on Cow’s Milk Allergy. The module is of particular relevance to GPs but may also be of interest to health visitors and other community practitioners looking to extend their knowledge of this area.

E-learning

This module provides a review of:

  • Symptoms and manifestations of infant food allergy
  • Guidelines for diagnosis and management of IgE-mediated Cow’s Milk Allergy
  • Guidelines for diagnosis and management of non-IgE-mediated Cow’s Milk Allergy
  • Practical advice and parental support, including supporting breastfeeding and the introduction of solids in infants with allergy

After completing this module you will have acquired a practical understanding of how infant food allergy typically manifests, and how to undertake an allergy-focused clinical history if food allergy is suspected.

You will feel confident in identifying symptoms of IgE- and non-IgE-mediated cow’s milk allergy, and in diagnosing and managing mild-to-moderate Cow’s Milk Allergy in primary care using the latest guidelines. You will also be familiar with ‘red flag’ symptoms that may indicate a severe Cow’s Milk Allergy and should be referred to secondary care.
