Introducing the new Enteral Connection System - ENPlus

May 15, 2017 - 09:00 AM

The new enteral connection system - ENPlus - is the introduction of the plus / cross (+) shaped port on the tube feed packs of Nutricia's tube feed ranges - Nutrison, Nutrini, Infatrini and Tentrini.

The ENPlus enteral connection system will help to safeguard patients from the potential risks of accidental tube misconnections between enteral nutrition delivery systems and other delivery systems, especially IV, as it provides exclusive compatibility to enteral feeding systems.

ENPlus Overview

Reason for change

This is an ISO regul;ation 18250-3 brought about by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to avoid potential misconnections between enteral systems and other delivery systems. The publication is expected in October/November 2017 so all companies must be compliant by then.

Timeline for change

Tube feed packs with the ENPlus enteral connection system will be available on the market from June 2017. Please note that there will be a period of time when both existing packs and new packs will be available on the market depending on stock levels. The outer case of the new feed packs (all sizes) will have the ENPlus logo (see below) to help differentiate from the current one.

Main differences in the new tube feed packs and outer case

The main difference is the new spout has a plus / cross (+) shaped port to connect to the giving set. When pushing the giving set through the plus / cross (+) shaped port it pierces the integrity seal underneath. The new pack with the cross port is a little taller.

ENPlus Details

The outer case of the 1L and 1.5L packs is 15mm taller than the current one due to the extra height of the pack. The increase in size may have some implications for storage. The 500ml case remains the same size. The new outercase for all sizes will also have the ENPlus logo to help differentiate from the current one.

ENPlus Logo

Please note that the order codes, nutritional composition and priuce of all products will remain the same. Also, all Flocare giving sets and accessories will not change and are already compliant with the new connection.

Products affected by the change

The change affects all products available in packs (500ml, 1L and 1.5L packs) within Nutricia's tube feed ranges - Nutrison, Nutrini, Infatrini and Tentrini.

All patients receiving products affected by this change through Nutricia Homeward have received a letter advising them of the change and how to connect to the new system.

If you need any further information or assistance, please contact your Nutricia Account Manager, or contact the Resource Centre on 01225 751098.
